Leadership skills often follow a
certain line of predictability when they are attributed to
individuals considered to be a cut above. We have come to expect the
description of traits like resilience, foresight, strength and
charisma when we think of the classic image of the leader. In the
corporate world of tax, finance and human resources these traits
still stand strong for many leaders but there are other aspects that
often get forgotten or downtrodden in the competition for leadership.
Workers go head to head thinking that they can become stronger, more
vigilant and hardened in their quest to become leaders in the
workplace but the results often vary. In this article we examine the
reasons why this is not always the most efficient way to reach that
leadership goal shared by so many out there.
Depending on your position at the
company there will always be different things that one must do in
order to attain true leadership. Taking example in Rick Kelo
we can see just how multifaceted leadership can be in the corporate
world. Rick Kelo is a finance analyst, talent finder, economic
expert and team builder that has fulfilled all these roles at a
number of prestigious institutions over the course of his career.
Previously these have included KB Home and Pedcor Investments as well
as time spent in the military. Rick Kelo firstly has placed
great value on education in order to become a leader. Having spent
many years at the University of Illinois and the Military Academy at
West Point, New York, he knows that putting in the hours really gives
the knowledge needed to lead.
Importantly Rick Kelo also
learned that being a leader does not mean being the most hardened and
brash of the pack. As a team building expert with years of experience
in human resources Rick Kelo has seen that social skills and
well versed communication are key to moving up in the world of
business. Making friends and understanding the needs of others makes
you a receptive and liked individual and it has paid off for many
others aside from Rick Kelo. The example we can see in his
career broadens the horizons of leadership and makes sure that others
will be diverse in their future endeavors for it.
